violinist, teacher, coach, artistic leader
Duo Amadè was formed by the violinist Catherine Mackintosh and the fortepianist Geoffrey Govier in the 1980s to concentrate upon performing the sonatas of Mozart. It is their belief that the performance of these works on period instruments gives them a freshness and vitality that might otherwise be lost. They have recorded the sonatas for Chandos, and have recently performed them at the Haydn Festival in Plzen, Czech Republic, the Mozart Festival in Cluj, Romania, the Royal College of Music, and the National Trust’s Hatchlands Park.
Volume one in the Chandos series (CHAN 0755) was an Editor’s Choice in the January 2009 issue of Gramophone and Volume 2 (CHAN 0764) was a Critics’ Christmas Choice in the same magazine’s December 2009 issue. In the 1990s the Duo was also joined by other players to perform a number of piano concertos by Mozart in the composer’s own arrangements in performances at the Wigmore Hall.
